This iconic Microbus wasn’t your average ride. Back in the 1980s, when the custom VW scene was in full swing, this 23-window Deluxe Samba truly stood out. It wasn’t just a showstopper, it was a magazine cover model, featured in Hot VWs and admired by VW aficionados everywhere.

A Blast from the Past:

The Cosmic Bus wasn’t just about the flashy exterior (think turquoise and pink paint job with airbrushed cartoon characters). This beauty boasted a whole lot of custom touches under the hood, like Briz bumpers, Centerline wheels, Vitaloni mirrors, and even a Porsche 911-style cooling fan. But here’s the kicker: this far-out van wasn’t some imitation; it’s a genuine German Deluxe Samba, built in 1957 and shipped straight to Los Angeles.  The classic VW was recently featured for sale at OldBug.com, where you can see even more astonishing details about this ride.

Sadly, the Cosmic Bus vanished earlier this year, in 2024, after being stolen from the locked garage of a private residence in Stockton, California. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office has a report on file (case # 24-5691), but we need your help to track down this piece of automotive history.
