ORIGINAL POST
Paso Robles, CA – Calling all Porschephiles! A rare 1993 Porsche RS America, bathed in a head-turning Midnight Blue paint job, vanished from its driveway in Paso Robles, California sometime in May. The owner believes it was professionally lifted and hauled away by a trailer or tow truck, leaving a gaping hole in their collection and a heavy heart.
But what exactly is an RS America, and why would it be so appealing to thieves?
The Birth of a Legend: The 1993 Porsche RS America
The 1993 RS America was a love letter to Porsche’s racing heritage. Built to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the legendary 1973 Carrera RS and offered only in North America, this limited-edition beast was a stripped-down, lightweight masterpiece designed for pure driving pleasure.
Think of it as a Porsche on a serious diet. Gone were the luxuries of the standard Carrera – in came a stiffer suspension, sharper handling, and a fire-breathing engine that begged to be pushed. Owning an RS America is like owning a piece of Porsche’s racing DNA.
This Midnight Blue Beauty: A Collector’s Dream
This particular stolen RS America is even more special. The Midnight Blue paint, a rare option at the time, sets it apart from the more common red and white color schemes. Then there are the unique features that would make any Porsche enthusiast weak in the knees:
- The iconic “whale tail” spoiler – a symbol of Porsche’s racing prowess.
- Subtle “RS” markings on the flanks.
- The prestigious “RS America” badge on the rear.
- An unexpected upgrade to leather seats – a sign this car was loved and meticulously cared for.
Why This Porsche Could Be Targeted by Thieves
There are two main reasons why this stolen RS America could be a prime target for thieves.
Scenario 1: The Ultimate Collector’s Item
Given its pedigree, unique features, and limited numbers (only 701 were ever built!), this RS America could be a dream come true for any Porsche collector. The thief might be after adding this rare gem to their own clandestine collection, or perhaps they plan to flip it for a hefty sum on the black market.
Scenario 2: A Parts Paradise for Profit
There’s a darker possibility. Disassembled, this RS America could become a goldmine for parts. Its limited-edition components, from the high-performance suspension to the coveted “whale tail” spoiler, would be highly sought after by Porsche enthusiasts looking to restore their own rides. In the hands of a skilled mechanic, this stolen car could be a source of quick cash, leaving the original owner with nothing but a pile of worthless metal.
